Introduction
Mid-day meal is an initiative by the Government of India to offer meals to school-age children across the nation. The program aims at supplying free lunches to children in primary and upper primary classes in government-aided schools, local bodies, innovative education centres and Madarsas supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyanand National Child Labour Project Schools. It is one of the largest programs across the globe where approximately 120,000,000 children in over 1,265,000 schools are served the meal.
Objective
The objective of Government behind introducing the scheme is to provide a free meal to underprivileged children, who are deprived of it. It also aims to increase the literacy rate in India as the lower strata in our country don’t encourage their children to study and engage them in child labour to make a living for the family.
Stri Shakti strives to contribute their bit to the Mid-day meal initiative by serving a nutritious meal to the children. The Self Help Groups of Stri Shakti prepare wholesome food in large quantities for the Anganwadis keeping in mind the nutrition need of these children. Stri Shakti offers employment opportunities for women empowerment along with working for the betterment of our society as children are a valuable asset and the future of our country.
